Materials
1 skein Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick yarn (1 skein = 106 yds) or another super bulky weight yarn (color shown is glacier)
16” 10.0mm Circular Knitting Needle
1 Stitch Marker
Tapestry needle to weave in ends
Gauge:
4” = 11 STS & 14 Rows in St. John’s Wort pattern (note that length doesn’t matter as much because you’ll just continue the pattern until a certain length)
Finished Measurements: 16” circumference (measured from the outside) and about 9.75” long
Abbreviations
CO = Cast On
K = Knit
PSSO = Pass a Slipped Stitch Over
P = Purl
SL = Slip
ST = Stitch
STS = Stitches
YO = Yarn Over

Instructions:
CO 48 STS and join in in the round, being careful not to twist. Place a marker to note the beginning/end of round. If you need to change the size of the hat, you can add or subtract in multiples of 6 stitches.
Row 1: [K1, P1] to end
Repeat Row 1 5 more times.
Begin St. John’s Wort Stitch pattern in the round
Row 1: [SL1, K2, PSSO, K3] to end
Row 2: [K1, YO, K4] to end
Row 3: [K3, SL1, K2, PSSO] to end
Row 4: [K4, YO, K1] to end
Repeat Rows 1-4 until piece measures 9” long, making sure to end on a Row 1 or Row 3.
Next Row: [K2TOG] to end.
Cut yarn, leaving about a 10” tail, and weave tail through remaining loops. Pull tight and tie off, closing top of hat. Attach pompom.
