The Parkside Peplum Top is a fun summer knit with a classic look and the perfect amount of flare.  It’s knit from the top down in the round so you can easily adjust length as you go. An i-cord edge at the top is added at the end with simple i-cord straps.

Size Guide + Finished Measurements
The tank is written in 10 sizes, 1 (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 10), with a finished bust size of 23.5 (26, 28.5, 31, 33.5, 36, 38.5, 41.5, 44, 46.5) in/60 (66.5, 72.5, 79, 85.5, 92, 98.5, 105, 111, 117.5) cm.  The top is intended to have about 4-6 in/10-15cm negative ease across the bust so pick a size that will provide the intended ease or adjust to your desired ease.  Note that the negative ease helps to keep the top up around the bust.  Feel free to adjust body length as desired. Please note that if you would like to make a bust circumference in between the listed sizes, please feel free to add or subtract stitches at the cast on.  The pattern is very easily adjusted for different cast on stitches.

Yarn
Approximately 2 (2, 3, 3, 3, 3, 4, 4) skeins of We Are Knitters The Cotton (232 yds/212 m per 3.53 oz/100g skein; 100% pima cotton) or any other yarn that meets gauge. Color shown is Aquamarine. Other options are Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton, Lion Brand Coboo, Lion Brand Comfy Cotton Blend, and Lion Brand Pima Cotton. Please note that all of these yarns have slightly different weights and textures, so you’ll need to check gauge.

Needles
4mm (US 6) 32 in/80 cm circular knitting needles
4 mm (US 6) DPNs for the I-Cord straps
4.5mm (US 7) 32 in/80 cm circular knitting needles
Or knitting needles needed to obtain correct gauge

19 STS + 27 Rows = 4 in/10 cm in stockinette stitch on 4mm (US6) needles unblocked

BOR: beginning of round

Instructions
With the 4mm (US 6) 32 in/81cm circular knitting needles, CO 112 (124, 136, 148, 160, 172, 184, 196, 208, 220) STS (or the desired amount of even-numbered CO STS) using the long-tail CO method and join in the round, being careful to not twist the STS.  Place M to denote BOR.

Round 1: K to BOR M
Continue Round 1 (ST ST) for 8 (8, 8.5, 8.5, 9, 9, 9.5, 9.5, 10, 10) in/20.5 (20.5, 21.5, 21.5, 23, 23, 24, 24, 25.5, 25.5) cm or desired length before peplum bottom. For reference, the top is designed to increase for the peplum bottom around the belly button.

Increase for Peplum Bottom

Round 1: *K1, K1F&B, repeat from * to BOR. You have now increased to 168 (186, 204, 222, 248, 258, 276, 294, 312, 330) STS.
Round 2:  K to BOR.

Peplum Bottom
Switch to 4.5mm (US 7) 32 in/80 cm circular knitting needles.
Round 1: K to BOR
Continue Round 1 (ST ST) for 6.5 (6.5, 7, 7, 7.5, 7.5, 8, 8, 8.5, 8.5) in/16.5 (16.5, 18, 18, 19, 19, 20.5, 20.5, 21.5, 21.5) cm or intended length of peplum section. Bottom ribbing will add approximately 0.5 in/1.5 cm.

Bottom Ribbing
Round 1: *K1, P1, repeat from * to BOR.
Repeat Round 1, 2 more times.
BO loosely in 1x1 rib ST.

 I-Cord Edging
With the 4mm (US 6) 32 in/80 cm circular knitting needles, start at the left underarm and PUK a ST in each ST across the top.
Begin a 3 ST i-cord bind off:
Using the cable CO method, CO 3 STS
*K2, K2TOGTBL, slip 3 STS on right needle back onto left needle, repeat from * until you’ve worked the entire top and 3 STS remain.  BO remaining 3 STS and weave in ends, connecting the beginning and end of the i-cord edging together.

 I-Cord Straps
Try on the top and place removable stitch markers at the points where you would like the straps to start on the front for both the left and right sides.  Note that the straps will be worked across four stitches on the front.

Using 4mm (US 6) DPNs, PUK 4 STS in the back of the I-Cord edging.  Begin a 4 ST I-Cord strap:

Row 1: Slide STS to other side of DPN (right needle becomes the left needle) and K 4 STS onto right needle.  Do not turn work.

Repeat Row 1 until desired strap length.  BO the I-Cord, leaving an end for seaming.  Lay the top flat and seam the strap end to the back of the top so that it lines up evenly with the front.

Finishing
Weave in all loose ends with a tapestry needle.  Block to final measurements.
